Review of the series “Zero Twenty-Four” (024)
The series “Zero Twenty-Four” is a war-historical drama that tries to look at the sacred defense from a different angle; focusing on “engineering in war”. By linking an emotional situation (the hero’s marriage) to a national necessity (the call to the front), this series has a classic and captivating beginning that takes the audience along with the character’s personal motivations.
Strengths:
– Focus on expertise: Unlike many works of this genre that emphasize only physical bravery, this series focuses on intelligence, creativity, and engineering knowledge as the key to victory in complex operations (such as crossing the Hur).
– Loyalty to the atmosphere of the 60s: The reconstruction of operational spaces, set and costume design, and the use of long shots in Hur have created an acceptable visual atmosphere that conveys a documentary and epic feeling to the viewer at the same time.
– Structural coherence: The work consciously moves within the framework of the genre and maintains the rhythm of the narrative properly to be entertaining and followable for the television audience.
Weaknesses:
– Typical characters: The characters (hero, wife, commander) lack gray layers and deep internal conflicts and mostly remain in the form of familiar patterns.
– Predictable suspense: The script has been a little cautious in creating breathtaking knots; so that the intelligent audience can predict many of the turning points and endings of situations.
Technical section and editing:
In this work, editing plays a key role in maintaining the rhythm of the story, especially in the transition between the front and the back of the front. By controlling the rhythm of the episodes, Manouchehr Sanei has been able to provide the necessary visual coherence for this engineered narrative and prevent the rhythm from dropping in the dialogue-oriented sections.
